Music Monday: Rayzor’s Top 5 Favorite Bands

This is a list that is so damned hard to make, but it had to be done.  Well it probably did not have to be done, I just have enjoyed writing about different music from the last three decades and I figured, why not?  Why not do a list, I do all kinds of lists don’t I?  Well here is my latest and greatest list, my favorite bands of all time.  I am not going to stop there, I am also listing my top 5 favorite songs by my top 5 favorite bands.  Yeah, why the hell not?

As I have mentioned before, music plays a big part in my creative process and it also brings back old memories that I love to remember.  These bands have inspired me in one way or another and really put me in the mood to write or be creative.  Not to mention these are bands I can listen to at any time and we are talking nearly everything produced.  So this was fun, I listened to a lot of music to do this and now I can reveal a list of my favorites.

Before we get to the thick of it, I wanted to mention a few bands I may have not mentioned this month that I love.  Pink Floyd, Led Zeppesin, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Blondie, Korn and the Doors.  These are some of my favorites that really impacted me over the years.  Most of the other bands I love have been mentioned in my other Music Month posts, RayZor’s Reflections: Music That Inspires (1985 – 1993), RAYZOR’s Reflections:1994 – 1998: Music That Made Me Part 1 and RayZor’s Reflections:1999 – 2003: Music That Made Me Part 2.  Check these posts out after you read this, or before.  Thanks again for reading and enjoying Music Month here at Nightfall Unlimited.

Mötley Crüe

This was my first favorite band and for many years I followed their music, from Shout at the Devil to Dr. Feelgood.  When Vince Neil left the band, so did I, not to mention the music revolution that came along with Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.  I remember in the late 1990s a greatest hits album was released and it renewed my love affair with the Crue.  My favorite album by Mötley Crüe is Shout at the Devil.  Now here are my top 5 favorite Mötley Crüe songs.

5. Kickstart My Heart – Dr. Feelgood

4. You’re All I Need – Girls, Girls, Girls

3. Home Sweet, Home – Theatre of Pain

2. Wild Side – Girls, Girls, Girls

1. Shout at the Devil – Shout at the Devil

Stone Temple Pilots

Early 1990s I mentioned the change of the guard in music and this was one of the bands that pushed Glam Metal out.  I loved the sound of Stone Temple Pilots and really enjoyed them along with Nirvana most of my 7th and 8th grade years.  I listened to the albums Core and Purple over and over.

5. Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart – Tiny Music…Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop

4. Adhesive – Tiny Music…Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop

3. Plush – Core

2. Big Empty – Purple

1. Still Remains – Purple

Alice In Chains

Even before Stone Temple Pilots and the end of the Glam Metal era, I found Alice In Chains.  Of course everyone has heard the song Rooster.  When I heard that song, I knew it was something special, went to the mall that day and bought, Dirt.  The entire album was so damned good, I became a fan for life.  Here are my top 5 favorite songs by Alice In Chains.

5. I Stay Away – Jar of Flies

4. Rain When I Die – Dirt

3. Man in the Box – Facelift

2. Down In A Hole – Dirt

1. Heaven Beside You – Alice In Chains

Rest in Peace Layne Staley(1967-2002)

Stabbing Westward

As I said before, high school was a big time for me and music.  I think that is true for just about everyone, meeting new friends and finding new interests.  At one point I needed rides to school and a friend, Sean would pick give me a lift.  He always had new music and I absorbed a lot of different music, some I forgot and some kept.  Stabbing Westward was one that stuck and oddly enough I was able to pass on the great band.  My favorite album is Darkest Days and here are my top 5 Stabbing Westward songs.

5. Nothing – Ungod

4. What Do I Have To Do – Wither Blister Burn and Peel

3. Sometimes it Hurts – Darkest Days

2. Shame – Wither Blister Burn and Peel

1. Waking Up Beside You – Darkest Days

One time I fell asleep at my best friends house and was having a dream about starting a band.  At the time I was really just getting into the Deftones and dating a girl named Stephanie, she reminds me of the girl on the cover of Around the Fur.  Lets call it 1997, I apparently had a dream that me and my friend Tony started a band and called it the Stephtones.  Yeah, hell of a dream, later Tony wanted my friend Brett to call a band, Purple Stained Grape Fruit or Concrete Asian Feet.  While I am at it, we also created a word, Peeperestmamerami.   Tony and I listened to the Deftones quite a bit and they became our go to band to listen to or see in concert.  They have not produced an album I have not listened to over and over, I love nearly every song.  Check out an article I wrote, Rayzor’s Reflections: The Deftones it is from last February so it is little out dated.

I even went as far as to try and look like the lead singer, Chino.  It must have worked, for a short time, people around town actually called me Chino.   Hell Tony looked like Chi Cheng…no he really did not.  I have also secured so many usernames on different websites with aroundthefur, speaking of, Around the Fur is my favorite Deftones album and this mt top 5 Deftones songs.  Thank you again to Sean Presley for introducing me to my favorite band in, like 1996.

5. Back to School – White Pony

4. Minerva – Deftones

3. Cherry Waves – Saturday Night Wrist

2. Beauty School – Diamond Eyes

1. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) – Around the Fur

Rest in Peace Chi Cheng(1970-2013)…One Love

So there you have it, these are my favorite bands, well the top 5.  Thanks for sticking with me through this and thanks for viewing.
