Music Monday: 10 Superhero Themes

Nightfall Unlimited has been gone nearly 2 years now.  We used to do a Music Monday every single Monday with a different theme.  Most Music Mondays were done by a dear friend and terrific artist, Jane Bush. She came up with some interesting themes.

Over the weekend, I took the chance to watch a few superhero movies and televisions shows, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Suicide Squad and the two Kick Ass movies.  But, it was watching the Dark Knight that made me want to put up this post.  Mostly do to Hans Zimmer’s damn near perfect score for the series.  The theme from Batman Begins, which is played through the entire series sounds like Batman. Almost the way John Williams’ Superman theme is Superman.

This is not a top 10 list.  These are simply 10 themes that I really like…How about we start off upbeat.

Iron Man 3 (2013)

From the 1966 Batman and on, every Superhero movie seems to have a hero theme.  Iron Man really never seemed to have one, it may be a Marvel thing, but Iron Man 3, brought us an upbeat theme that I really loved.  It was played during the credits from at the end of the film.

This may not be the “Iron Man” theme, but it is fantastic.

Batman (1989)

While I prefer this series to the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight series, I am not as big of a fan of this Batman theme.  Sure it is recognizable and when I hear it I think of the Burton/Keaton Batman.  But, it has a noir sound, which matches the film series.  I do like it, but I feel they could have done a little less.

Avengers (2012)

Very upbeat and sounds triumphant.  The theme from 2012’s Avengers is fantastic.  I really believes composers to be so talented.  Sometimes the hit the nail on the freaking head.  This screams Avengers win!

The Man of Steel (2013)

I don’t think I have been so nervous for a theme song for a superhero movie to be released.  The Superman theme from John Williams was perfection, it is one that seemed impossible to replace.  While the Williams theme is still tops for the Man of Steel, I do really like the theme from Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

This one is similar to the Avengers theme.  Marvel and its team up movies sound very similar.  I still like this theme, though the actual soundtrack is better.

Batman Begin (2005)

To me, this is the best Batman theme.  It sounds like he is tearing ass through Gotham in the Batmobile, racing to stop the Joker.  I don’t only identify this to the Dark Knight trilogy.  It is a great Batman theme.

Superman (1978)

I have no words…just listen.

Daredevil (2015)

I guess not all great themes come from movies.  This isn’t much, but it is very good to set the tone for the show, I really enjoy the theme.

Smallville (2001-2011)

Speaking of terrific theme songs for a TV show.  The opening song from Smallville is perfect.  There are many emotions that play into Remy Zero’s Save Me.  It kicks the show off and for every single episode, it gave me chills and it still does.

Wonder Woman – Batman V. Superman (2016)

Immediatly I loved this theme.  It fits Wonder Woman in this universe and it feels like an Amazonian battle song for sure.  Seeing Gal Gadot in costume fighting Doomsday was the second best part of the film for me.  I have this theme set as my ring tone and have for months.

Honorable Mentions:

Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (2010-2012)

The song at first annoyed me.  I like it now

The Batman (2005-2009)

Batman Brave and the Bold (2008-2011)

Justice League Unlimited (2004-2008)
