Rayzor’s Review: Netflix’s Daredevil Season 2

The wait is over!  Daredevil season 2 is finally here and nearly everyone on my Facebook timeline is full of people who have finished the show already.  Even with that, I will refrain from spoilers and really this is just my impressions on the season.  It took nearly 13 hours to watch the show and it was only my first viewing.  It was easier to watch than Jessica Jones, which to some people’s surprise, it was only ok for me.

Season 1, it was amazing.  With shows like Arrow and the Flash, we get the chance to see what a “superhero” show could be like.  Add Netflix and not having too many boundaries, compared to a network show.  The beginning of Daredevil was awesome, the characters were great and season 2 had big shows to fill.  How do you beat the Kingpin?  How about bringing in Elektra and the Punisher?  How about that?

The story was progressive and kind of moved to where I expected.  The struggle to hide his identity as much and there was a lot more supporting characters.  Foggy and Karen’s story seemed to almost take center stage.  Although, Karen’s was pretty important.  The season was broken up a little by story arcs which seemed like a change.  Jessica Jones and season 1 of Daredevil had a long over arcing story.  Daredevil season 2 starts with the Punisher and then eventually it rolls into the actual story when Elektra showed up.

Frank Castle, the Punisher was played by Jon Bernthal.  He was excellent.  There was so much pain behind the character.  He played Frank Castle different from what we had ever seen.  The origin seemed to be a problem for some people, it worked well for the show.  When Bernthal was cast, I was excited, I knew he fit the role perfectly and he did.  Some of the highlights for the Punisher.  His gun play, there is a fight similar to the hallway fight in the first season of Daredevil.  Jon Bernthal, was really great as Frank Castle, the Punisher.  I would love to see a standalone Punisher show or even put him into a film.  I think this season of Daredevil could work as a Punisher season 1, but I honestly do not know how good an entire show with the Punisher would be.  But he was great and welcome back.

Elektra, she is easily my favorite of all the Marvel girls.  She was played by Elodie Yung and to perfection.  The casting on Daredevil was so good in season 1, season 2 they killed it.  She looked the part and played her very well.  There were some liberties to the character I was not too sure about.  But we all have to remember, this is not the comics universe, it is the MCU.  I loved how flawed she was in the show, as in the comics.  Every time she was on screen, my eyes were on her.  She was great and I am overall happy with the way she was played.  I love seeing girls kick ass and I got to see a lot of that this season.

So, that is all I have to say about Daredevil…at this point.  I loved it and I hope everyone else does too.  We have to wait another year to see season 3 and September 30th for Luke Cage.  Something about Jessica Jones that is not exciting me.  I am ready for Iron Fist and the Defenders.  Daredevil season 2 was better than season 1 for sure.  But together it may be the top show on Netflix.  It could be the top superhero show, but I think that belongs to the Flash.  It is the best Marvel show to date, Agents of S.H.E.I.D. has not been good and I never started Agent Carter, I need to.  Daredevil really shows me, it is time to see other heroes get their own show.  When I say other heroes, I mean A listers.  Hawkeye would be a great show, if it were down like the Matt Fraction comic.  As I said, I don’t think we need a Punisher show, but what about Moonnight?

For season 3 for Daredevil, it might be time to see Bullseye.  What do you think?  Also, we all need more Kingpin in our lives.

Daredevil season 1 and 2 are both available on Netflix now.  Both are great.  If you haven’t, what are you waiting for.
